Laboratory Assistant
Starting: September 1, 2023

Employment Type: Part-time, 10 hours/week (Mini-job basis)Contract Type: 2 years
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and set up materials, chemicals and equipment needed for lab experiments
- Clean up experiments after practical lessons, including classrooms
- Clean up fume hoods, faucets, sinks and pipes
- Be responsible for the Physics classroom including maintenance of equipment
- Practice safe and environmentally conscious disposal of used and expired chemicals and broken equipment
- Report maintenance needs of Science apparatus based on contracts and regulations
- Carry out small repair and maintenance works
- Ensure the safe storage of Science materials in Science classrooms and prep-rooms according to regulations
- Determine materials, chemicals and equipment that need replacement and replenishment
- Support keeping a computer-based inventory of all materials, chemicals and equipment
- Coordinate with teachers in reference to additional materials needed
- Take delivery of new material and equipment from purchase officers and run small errands
- Procure and maintain live specimens
- Collect samples, e. g. water from rivers, leaves etc.
- Familiarize teachers with the operation of new material
- Assist teachers in the classroom with experiments when requested
The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:
- Experience in a laboratory environment an advantage
- Be reliable and responsible
- Good German or English skills required
- Valid work permit for Germany
